FAT-TIRE ELECTRIC RECUMBENT QUAD
A wide, four-wheel recumbent platform for riders who want a planted position, fat-tire capability and a drive system built around the way they actually ride.
BUILT AROUND THE RIDE
The F420E is designed first as a practical riding quad—not as a specification exercise. Its one-metre stance favors stability, while the adjustable recumbent position, mid-drive assistance and rear air suspension support longer everyday rides and mixed surfaces.
Lifestyle image shows a real F420E in use. Individual components may vary by ordered configuration.
CHOOSE THE FACTORY CONFIGURATION
Select 2WD or mechanical 4WD, then choose the battery and motor. The displayed price updates from these three selections. Frame color is selected separately in the purchase form and is saved with the order.

ADDITIONAL TRACTION WHEN NEEDED
Production choice: mechanical 4WD must be selected before production and cannot be retrofitted after delivery.
SWITCHABLE MECHANICAL 4WD
Both clips show the same factory-built Mechanical 4WD system. Use rear-wheel-drive mode for normal riding, then engage the front drive when additional traction is needed.
With the front drive disengaged, pedal and mid-drive motor power passes through the secondary transmission and rear chain to the rear axle, driving both rear wheels.
Engaging the front-drive mechanism sends mechanical power to both front and rear axles for additional traction on loose, uneven or difficult surfaces.

FOUR-WHEEL PLATFORM
The F420E supports itself when stationary, so you do not need to balance the vehicle at a stop. Its one-metre outside-to-outside stance, low recumbent seating position and wide fat tires create a planted platform for everyday roads and changing surfaces.
TrikExplor applies modular platform engineering across two-, three- and four-wheel products. The F420E itself is ordered and delivered as a four-wheel quad.
COMFORT & RIDER FIT
The one-piece nylon-mesh seat supports the rider while allowing airflow through the back and base. Its standard installed angle is approximately 45°. The adjustment bracket provides three positions, changing roughly 3° per step and adding about 10° at the maximum setting.
Leg length is adjusted through the telescoping front boom. The headrest adjusts in height and angle. The F420E has rear suspension only; it is not a full-suspension quad and cannot be converted to full suspension.
DRIVE ARCHITECTURE
The Bafang mid-drive turns the front chainring. The primary chain carries pedal and motor power to the Shimano 9-speed cassette in the secondary transmission. A second output sprocket then drives the rear chain, transferring power to the rear differential and both rear wheels.
Mid-drive → primary chain → secondary transmission → rear chain → rear differential → both rear wheels.
The SRAM 11-speed secondary transmission uses two coaxial output sprockets: one serves the front axle and the other drives the rear axle through a driveshaft. A manual lever moves the front-drive chain between the front differential sprocket and a nylon resting slot.
Low-speed switching: change between rear-wheel 2WD and mechanical 4WD at low speed, similarly to changing a bicycle gear. Use a steady input rather than a sudden high-power change.
MOTOR & BATTERY
The standard system combines a 48V 500W Bafang BBS02 mid-drive with one removable 48V 20Ah battery. Choose the 1000W Bafang BBSHD for stronger assistance or add a second battery for more installed energy capacity.
Range changes with surface, assist level, throttle use, rider and cargo weight, tire pressure, temperature and wind. We do not publish one universal maximum-range claim.
VERIFIED REAL-WORLD TEST
A 2WD F420E with a 48V 500W Bafang BBS02 motor and one 48V 20Ah battery completed a 50 km ride with a 75 kg rider.
This is one documented ride, not a guaranteed range. We do not extrapolate it into a maximum-range claim.
BRAKING, STEERING & CONTROLS
Four Avid BB7 calipers are fitted. The left hand lever controls the left front running brake; the right controls the right front running brake. A separate rotary lever below the seat operates both rear parking brakes. The right lever cuts motor power; the left activates the brake light.
Four hydraulic calipers are fitted. The right lever controls both front brakes and cuts motor power; the left controls both rear brakes and activates the brake light. Parking locks on both levers can secure all four wheels.
UTILITY & EQUIPMENT
The standard open rear rack supports up to 50 kg / 110 lb when cargo is secured and correctly distributed. The complete lighting system is powered by the main battery.
Open rear rack, headrest, safety flag and pole, headlight, indicators, tail light, brake light, hazard lights, color display, thumb throttle, rear air suspension and parking brake.
Fenders, sun canopy and bumper are separate products. They are recommended add-ons rather than F420E variants, keeping vehicle configuration, accessory pricing and inventory clear.
DIMENSIONS & FIT
Before ordering, measure gates, doors, lifts, storage entrances and the intended parking area. The 100 cm outside-to-outside width is the first dimension to check.
